Location: Silversun Manor Garden
William Silversun, owner of the Silversunsun Manor is having an afternoon snack in the garden together with Sir Elton Reyn and Lady Justinne Orael. The two were childhood friends of William though they are a lot younger than him.
William: So Elton, what's this good news Justinne kept telling me about? It must be of great importance since you wanted to tell me in person. Well?
Justinne and Elton smiled at each other. William also smiles while the two exchanges whispers.
Elton and Justinne: We're getting married next month!
William: ... that's wonderful news! First Vaine and Amelia and now the two of you.*smiles*
Justinne: I feel so lucky to have met Elton. I don't know where I'll end up if I never knew him.
William: ... *chuckles*
Elton: We've been friends for a long time now and I thought it was time to take it a step higher.
William: ... I hate to ruin this moment and I sincerely apologize, but you two have to leave. *glances at his pocket-watch* We'll talk about this some other time. I still have some business to take care of. The butler will see the two of you off.
Elton and Justinne, accompanied by a butler enter the manor. Just as the two leaves the garden, William's smile disappears. A man, only a few years older than William, steps out from behind the tall hedges. He wore a silver crest on his butler uniform.
William: ...so the head butler shows himself. Have the two left yet?
Head Butler: my, my. I can sense you're full of disgust for those two.
William: I don't hate them Sebastian... I just hate what they are...
Sebastian: a couple? And why is my Lord disgusted by an insignificant title like that? Did that Sir Reyn beat you to Lady Orael's heart or is it because they remind you of your loved one a long time ago?
William: *crushes his wine glass* ...
Sebastian: ohh? I think I hit a nerve. *snickers*
William: *chuckles* For a butler, you're very disrespectful.
Sebastian: I know that kind of attitude amuses you my Lord. *smiles*
William: *sigh* Let's just say I'm envious of those two
Sebastian: You want to get married sir?
William: *laughs* You really amuse me Sebastian. *stands up* I'll be at my office. Start preparing dinner in an hour.
Sebastian: As you wish sir. *bows*
William walks past Sebastian and the butler silently follows a few meters behind his master as they enter the manor.
Location: The Grand hall, Silversun Manor
The two men were about to go their separate ways. William will be heading up the staircase while Sebastian will head to the kitchen. William stops a quarter of the way up the staircase.
William: Sebastian...
Sebastian: What is it you want to say, my lord?
William: About what I said earlier... I don't envy those two because they're getting married...
Sebastian: You already said that my lord.
William: I... wasn't finished Sebastian.
Sebastian: I apologize sir. If my lord were to just say it instead of taking long pauses I wouldn't have interrupted.
William: *chuckles softly* I envy the bond they share even long before they fell in love. That special form of friendship. I want to be able to feel what they feel. That feeling other couples share as well. Something like a best friend only deeper than that. I feel... empty.
Sebastian: I have to apologize again. I can understand what you meant but I never searched for a best friend so I do not know how that would feel.
William: Of course you don't. You're too busy being a butler.
Sebastian: *smiles* Good one sir. Now if you will excuse me sir, I have to start gathering the ingredients for tonight's dinner.
William makes his way up the staircase while the butler remains in his spot. Sebastian watches William disappear eventually into the second floor hallway.
*Sebastian's smile disappears*
Sebastian: Oh but I do know how it feels sir. That feeling of emptiness you spoke of... I know it all too well...
